Projected Career Counseling:Artist with 2nd Thoughts 4 of 5

by Amanda on April 30, 2008

In order to assess Cindy and to find out what careers would fit her I would first want to get an idea of how Cindy views herself and the world with a personality test. According to what Cindy told me in the interview, she appears to be fairly self-aware.

I would give Cindy the Keirsey personality test. The Keirsey would give Cindy and I a four-letter personality type that would describe Cindy’s personality.

Cindy has had different jobs and has been able to find which jobs interest her more. She has also used her college classes to help her find her interests. If I were assessing Cindy, I would be fairly confident that she would be an easy client to help. I would give Cindy Holland’s Self-Directed Search. Cindy appears to know her interests, although she seems a little scattered and nervous about making a career decision. I personally love the Self-Directed Search and find it to be a valuable resource.

The Self-Directed Search would supply Cindy and I with a three-letter summary code. This summary code would tell us what jobs might interest Cindy.

Next, Cindy and I would look at the information that we had accumulated about Cindy’s personality and possibly preferred jobs and decide which jobs she would enjoy. I would also be sure to talk to Cindy about any deterrents to an education or anything that may get in the way of finding a desired career, although she did not mention anything in the interview.
