Cindy’s volunteer job has been the most enjoyable job to date. Cindy’s supervisor has noticed that Cindy has a great enthusiasm when working with the clients. Cindy’s co-workers and supervisor at this job find Cindy to be above and beyond the typical volunteer, and have encouraged her to apply for a paid position doing the same work as when she is volunteering.
Cindy has recently realized that a career as an artist is not the best career for her. She felt quite distressed and worried that she would be locked into a career in which she had no flexibility, and no stability. She felt uncomfortable paying for an education that would get her “nowhere in life.”
Cindy is wondering if she should change majors and careers. She enjoys volunteering so much that she has thought about working with a similar population. Cindy would like to work with mentally ill adults. She wants to help people by using the art skills that she has developed, interact with people, lead, and have the flexibility to use comedy skills.
Assessment
Cindy is curious about what careers are out there. Cindy has enough job experience to know what she likes and does not like, although she does not know what careers would fit her interests. Cindy is looking for guidance and has little knowledge about what careers she would enjoy.
