ISTP: The Mechanic, The Crafter

The ISTP is a very independent individual who constantly seeks adventure. ISTPs love figuring things out, and enjoy taking objects apart, figuring out how they work. The ISTP is naturally an excellent logical analyst, when applied to objects and things rather than ideas.

The ISTP enjoys none other than doing. They do not have patience for long term planning, nor sitting around sharing ideas. The ISTP also is a strict adherent to their own inner principles, although the ISTP is not willing to follow rules or guidelines just because someone/an authority figure “said so.” They respect what works and what makes sense much more than they possess an inherent admiration for authority, as most guardians do.

ISTPs are generally not comfortable with their own emotions (nor the emotions of others). The ISTP can become stressed and when in this state the ISTP can become very angry, hostile, or possibly even violent.

The ISTP is not only uncomfortable with emotions but is also overwhelmed by them. Additionally, if friends or family encourage or force emotional dialogue, as one example, the ISTP often becomes very stressed and eventually angry. The ISTP prefers to remain among what makes sense.

The ISTP is a straightforward, uncomplicated individual. And just because they do not appreciate emotions does not mean they are unfriendly. The ISTP in the right atmosphere is very happy, friendly, and engaging. Much of the outcome of a conversation depends on the content and whether the topic is found interesting.

The ISTP may be found unfriendly if the wrong topics are briefed upon. They will lose interest and may begin to scoff out loud at the topic.
