I think my fave defense mechanism is either Intellectualization or dissociation. I do both very much so. I'm a psychology undergrad and have been in therapy most of my life. I'm also manic depressive. I think I engage in intellectualization first and use facts to avoid emotions and dissociate from them. It's a painful process because I tend to go numb to everything and find it hard to deal with a painful situations or even deal with the person or thing.
